And I'm almost there... always

Melbourne- you had me at "How you going?"

Almost there.

It's my mantra these days. Has been for ages.

"Just one more hurdle to leap, one more hump to get over, one more mountain to climb. I'm almost there."

Thankfully, my son loves Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" and Tianna's song, "Almost there", actually puts me in a good mood these days. It's nice to know that fictional, cartoon characters go through some of the same problems, ya know?

Anywho, here's a quick update on what my 'Almost there' situation is right now. Feel free to write back and tell me your 'Almost there'!

So, almost two months ago now, my son and I made to the land down under. We made it to Australia. And it is everything I was hoping for and more.

No longer a fairy tale land with giant, bouncing, humanoid rabbits.

No longer the place that beckons, the home I yearned for.

No longer a dream within a dream.

And as with all dreams, some of the reality of the move has been well, less than a fairy tale.

Problems with subsidies, new rules to learn, new ways to apply for jobs, new ways of working, it's all new and it's hard, I'm not gonna lie to you.

But no matter how hard it gets, no matter how nauseous I sometimes feel from pure stress, no matter how much I shake when I get another call about something that has gone wrong somewhere... the fairy tale still lives on.

Because alongside the hurdles, humps and mountains are some of the most welcoming attributes I have ever experienced.

We recently moved from the sticks to Melbourne. And what a city Melbourne is!

So much life, so much energy, so much food!!!!! And the people, even though they (well, we now I guess) live in this hectic metropol, are polite, they are kind, even when they are rushing to their next meeting, or popping out to get that third caffeine fix.

Extraordinary.

We're still living out of suitcases, which is beginning to wear us both down, but soon enough we will have the home I always wanted for us, in the burbs of Melbourne, my favourite city in the world. And from there we can only go up. And this is the place to do it.

Almost there.
